Students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) are extremely furious and are all set to protest against the university with their exam centre alloted as HMR Institute of Technology and Management, Hamidpur, located in the far northwest of Delhi.

Students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) are extremely furious and are all set to protest against the university with their exam centre alloted as HMR Institute of Technology and Management, Hamidpur, located in the far northwest of Delhi.

Students from Northern India Engineering College who have to travel all the way to HMR for their B.Tech semester exam told the Stupidsid Reporter, "HMR College is highly unaccessible. It becomes really tiresome to travel around 25 kms from Rohini metro (which already is really far from Central Delhi) to reach the college. The university should consider appropriate and accessible centres for exams." 

In most cases, the exam centre is generally the same college from where the student is pursuing engineering. Students of HMR make the most of the bus facilities available during college hours but at the time of examination, no such services are provided by either GGSIPU or HMRITM.

The examination for B.Tech End Semester ends at 5 p.m. Even during the early evening hours, the place is highly unsafe for girls. The transport facility starts almost after a kilometre walk from the college. Moreover, keeping the recent rape cases in mind, girls do not feel secure in this area.

Another angry student (identity not revealed due to security concerns) added, "The email ids mentioned on the college website are not working. Phone calls are unanswered. College management can't do anything. Non-licensed cabs operating from the bus stand to the college (about 5km distance) looks really unsafe and shaddy and most students avoid taking this mode of transportation.

Annoyed students have humbly asked the management to consider one of the following suggestions:

1. Provide a paid/free service for all the students to the nearest metro station - Jahangirpuri on Yellow line (around 13 kms from college) - after the exams.
2. Change the exam centre to Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar which is a convenient and safer location.

These kind of situations have been a part and parcel of every students life. Right from the CET Test centre which is located in some remote area to the undergrad exam, students have also been on the receiving end.

Since the university is giving a very cold response, students have decided to file a Petition against this ongoing trouble. Many have already signed it.  It is time the management should not turn deaf ears to these vital problems and accept the matter very seriously by taking necessary steps.
